Before my kids went on sleepovers, I would thoroughly interview their friends’ parents to make sure they had no unlocked firearms around.
Now —after a needless fatal crash– I’ve added something just as important to my inquiry list: will the parents in attendance securely lock away all car keys before they go to sleep?
Just a few miles from here, a 16-year old with only a provisional license gathered up all his friends at his sleepover, grabbed the keys and unbeknownst to his sleeping parents, headed out for a 3:30AM ride. One of the boys didn’t want to go, but the others kept insisting so he groggily agreed, and crawled in the back seat and unbelted, lay down for the ride. 1 hour later he was dead, killed in a rollover crash.
Please–insist that the parents-in-charge remove all temptation.
